Sooraj is a disputes lawyer specialising in international and commercial law and in particular international investment and commercial arbitration. He acts as counsel, secretary and assistant to the tribunal in arbitration proceedings both under Indian and foreign law. Sooraj’s practice focuses primarily on arbitrations both ad hoc and institutional (ICC, LCIA, SIAC, DIAC etc.) and related court proceedings and commercial litigation before appellate courts in India, particularly, the Supreme Court. Sooraj has extensive experience across a wide range of disputes relating to media, telecommunication & technology, financial services, insurance and reinsurance, energy, construction & projects, company, cross border insolvency, pharmaceutical/life sciences, joint venture/share holder agreements etc. across different jurisdictions. This experience also includes handling bribery related internal investigations, white-collar crime cases and advising on issues concerning public and private international law including matters pertaining to extradition treaties, double taxation avoidance agreements and mutual legal assistance treaties. Sooraj has also acted as the Secretary to a High-Powered Committee/Special Investigative Team appointed by the High Court to investigate a multimillion-dollar case of financial fraud in the real estate sector.
